Solid Running Week

Solid Running Week

The weather is perfect. Each morning has been around 30 degrees. I ran with the Yak Trax earlier in the week, but shed them on Wednesday.

I love running this time of the year, as it is so crisp and not too cold. I have experimented with a mask from Duluth Trading. It makes me warm, so that is great. I can't wait to see how it performs later in the winter.

Keep up your runs. Winter is fun!

The Value of Rest Days

The Value of Rest Days

As a runner, I have not always appreciated rest days. I have read about them, but for some reason just like to "grind it out". It is true that you must rest to stay fresh and injury free. This weekend, I have been resting and it feels great. I should do this more often. I know, I know.

I can't wait to hit the road again tomorrow. Tonight I am playing hockey, so my legs won't feel that way tomorrow. YAHOOOO.

Have a great Sunday. Here's to the fossils!

Closing out the running year 2015

Closing out the running year 2015

As the Winter closes in on us here in the Midwest, I am reflecting on the running year and thinking about finishing strong. I have a virtual race still going and need to stay focused on finishing that one strong. It's the "Run the Edge" race, and the distance is 2,015 miles. I am partnered up with a fantastic runner and friend. We are so close to closing it out. We will post some funny pictures when we do.

Stay focused, stay safe this weekend and go run!

The last two months of the running year.

The last two months of the running year.

I must admit, the last two months of the year traditionally pose a challenge for me. It's darker than usual, cold and the schedule isn't packed with races. To compound the challenge, I just finished marathon season. Your body and mind trick you into this: You have worked hard and it's time to take a break.

This is a challenging period. Historically. Not this year though.

I have taken up one of my favorite sports: hockey. It requires you to be in great shape. Running does this for me. I now find myself running to be better on the ice.

On the running side, six of my awesome friends and I will be running a 75 mile relay in May. This is another great bit of motivation.

My goal is to have at least 100 miles a month for November/December.
